Exciting Solar Project Announced

February 2021

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball kicked off the upcoming solar project with an information session on February 24, 2021. The Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with KDC Solar, Inc. will build enough solar power to provide up to 50% of the electricity used by County government operations. The original plan had a goal of 20-30%, but with recent additional energy efficiency gains, it may now be 50%. The PPA includes solar project installation, operations, and maintenance at no capital cost to the County and will provide a total anticipated cost benefit of $1.2 million over the 25-year life of the contract. When complete, the project will include installations on rooftops, parking lots, and grounds on municipal and private property in Howard County.
