Join Patapsco Heritage Greenway at the Museum of Howard County History on January 31st for the culmination of Winter Salt Awareness Week 2025. Winter Salt Awareness Week takes place from January 27-31, 2025. Throughout the week, there will be daily YouTube livestreams from national and state speakers discussing the issues of excessive road salt pollution and what each of us can do to make a difference! The last day of Winter Salt Awareness Week is a monitoring day and PHG is hosting this local event to collect data and help contribute to the Snapshot of what chloride levels are in local waterways.
Stop by at 9am to grab a coffee, sign in and learn about how to perform a Salt Watch test and why it’s important. Go out to your local stream that morning on your own, take a reading, and come back to record your data.
This in-person event is a great opportunity to learn about water quality issues in the region and contribute to a large data set that will help us understand chloride levels in our streams.
