The University of Maryland Extension and Howard County’s Watershed Stewards Academy will offer a virtual presentation on Howard County’s Green Infrastructure Network by Eric Buschman, Environmental Planning Supervisor in the Howard County Department of Planning & Zoning. There is a planned Q&A session, as well.

Green Infrastructure is a mapped system of environmentally valuable lands such as forests, waterways, wetlands and meadows, that together form a connected network of natural habitats. This infrastructure helps support native plant and animal species, maintain natural ecological processes, sustain air and water resources, and contribute to the health and quality of life for communities.

Howard County’s Green Infrastructure Network consists of hubs (large, intact natural areas) and connecting corridors that often follow rivers and streams and serve as natural pathways for wildlife and plants. Come learn about how the Network was mapped and how the County is using it as a planning tool for natural resource protection and strategic land conservation.
