Green Building Institute

The Green Build­ing Insti­tute (GBI) is a 501c3 non-profit orga­ni­za­tion focused on edu­ca­tion, out­reach and net­work­ing.  Their mis­sion is to fos­ter sus­tain­able build­ing prac­tices through edu­ca­tion and example.

ACTIVITIES

  • Green Build­ing Courses — GBI offers courses on green build­ing top­ics in sev­eral loca­tions through­out Mary­land and the Bal­ti­more and metro DC areas.
  • Green Build­ing Net­work — an ad-hoc, infor­mal group of pro­fes­sion­als and inter­ested indi­vid­u­als who meet to net­work and dis­cuss green build­ing top­ics.  This free group meets the first Tues­day of every month, 6:30–8:30pm at the GBI office in Jessup.
  • Mary­land Green Reg­istry — GBI sup­ports the Mary­land Green Reg­istry, a free, vol­un­tary pro­gram offer­ing tips and resources to help orga­ni­za­tions set and meet their own goals on the path to sustainability.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Vol­un­teers help out with work­shops, staff booths at trade shows, and help spread the word about green build­ing and sus­tain­able liv­ing.  Vol­un­teers who assist a cer­tain num­ber of hours receive work­shop tuition in return.
