March 16
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Miller Branch Library

Howard County’s Watershed Improvement Network (WIN) meets twice a year to learn about local watershed protection and share information on upcoming watershed projects.  The next meeting is Friday, March 16, 1–3 at Miller Library.

The meeting will feature a Bill Mahoney, from the Howard County Office of Community Sustainability, speaking abut the County’s Green Infrastructure Network:
The Green Infrastructure Network (GIN) consists of large natural areas known as “hubs,” which are connected by “corridors.” Together, these connected ecosystems provide for plants and animals but also provide services to the human community — such as cleaning air and water, controlling pests, mitigating floods, pollinating crops, and providing recreational opportunities. The economic value of these services total well into the billions of dollars per year in Maryland alone. These naturally-occurring services are better provided when ecosystems are connected, giving us a landscape wide value which the Green Infrastructure Network aims to preserve and enhance.
We will then have time for short updates about local watershed projects. If you wish to speak at the meeting, simply sign up when you arrive.  2–3 minute updates for each person gives us the opportunity to hear from as many folks as we can.
After the updates, we have set aside time for open networking.  You will probably hear something during the meeting that you want to follow up with!
